Il Bruciato

Bolgheri DOC

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Syrah and other black grape varieties

After a rainy autumn and a winter with low average temperatures and snow, the vegetation began its renewed growth about 12-15 days later than the previous year. However, to compensate for this the good weather in spring helped the process along and the vines developed 10 days earlier than previous years. June, July and August were cooler than usual with average temperatures of around 24 °C and plenty of rain in August. Although these factors affected ripening and subsequently the harvest, the grapes were healthy and ripe with good potential at the time of harvest, and up to the usual standard of recent vintages.

The harvest began in early September with the Merlot and ended in late October with the Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were picked by hand and immediately taken to the cellar for scrupulous manual selection prior to destemming and crushing. Fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel vats for about 10-15 days at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C. Some of the Merlot and Syrah must was kept at a lower fermentation temperature to better preserve the varietal aromas and sweeter tannins. Malolactic fermentation took place in wooden barriques by the end of the year. The wine was later returned to the barriques where it matured for 8 months after which it was bottled. It was then aged in the bottles for 6 months.
Alcohol : 13.5% Vol.

Tasting notes

Intense, deep ruby red colour. Interesting, strikingly fragrant and healthy fruit aromas of cherries and raspberries followed by lighter, more complex hints of liquorice and coffee. Velvety sweet tannin on the palate with a fruity aftertaste in the finish, making this a very lingering and extremely enjoyable wine.
