Vermentino

Vintage

Classification

Vermentino, Bolgheri DOC

Blend

100% Vermentino from vineyards in Tenuta Guado al Tasso near Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, south of Livorno.

Climate

In 2006 the harvest in Bolgheri was well-balanced, beginning in the first week of September with the earlier varieties - merlot first of all - which were perfectly ripe. The lack of rainfall (except for storms in late September), absence of stress caused to the vines by drought and the very ripe grapes made it possible for the harvest to be concluded within an ideal period of time, obtaining optimum ripeness from the varieties progressively harvested: cabernet franc, syrah, petit verdot and lastly (in late September and early October) cabernet sauvignon. The vermentino grapes were harvested in several stages (including an attempt at late harvesting) which yielded a very good to excellent standard of quality. We therefore expect Bolgheri wines rich in ageing potential from this vintage year.

Vinification

The grapes coming from vineyards on the #Tenuta Guado al Tasso# Estate, were harvested in the early hours of the morning and, in order to give a good structure and aromas, a small quantity were vinified with the "crio-maceration" method (the must remains in contact with skins for almost 6 hours at a temperature of 5°C) and the other quantity were gently pressed. The two parts of must were then cooled down to induce natural clarification. The wine was then racked and the alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature which was kept below 18°C.
The wine obtained is stored in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature until bottling, in February 2006.
The vinification techniques employed have made it possible to enhance aromas and the typical varietal structure.
Alcohol : 13,0% Vol.
