Vermentino, Bolgheri DOC

100% Vermentino from the Tenuta Guado al Tasso vineyards near Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast south of Livorno.

The 2009 growing season, was initially dominated by rain all the way up to the second half of June. From that point onwards, the climate progressed under the guidance of good weather, thus allowing the plants to develop excellently, and therefore also permitting a perfect ripening of the grapes. These favorable climatic conditions along with the days filled with intense sunshine which characterized the second half of August, together with the good vegetative condition of the plants, produced grapes which optimally express their varietal typicality and with wonderful aromatic characteristics.

After destemming and a gentle pressing, the must was cooled down to a temperature of 10°C in order to cause natural decantation. The clear must was then racked into stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature not exceeding 16°C. The wine was kept for a short time in steel tanks at 10°C, (so as to preserve the fragrance unaltered), and was then filtered and bottled. Alcohol content: 12.5% by Vol.

Historical data

The first vintage of Vermentino Tenuta Guado al Tasso was 1996. The Guado al Tasso estate is located in Maremma, near the medieval village of Bolgheri, about 80 km southwest of Florence. The around 1,000-hectare estate extends from the Tyrrhenian coast to the hills, containing 300 hectares of vineyards. The rest of the estate comprises land given over to the cultivation of wheat, barley, oats and olives and also contains a wooded area, where "cinta senese" pigs are reared.

Tasting notes

The wine has a personality which really stands out. It opens with a straw yellow color with greenish tinges, has a very intense fruity fragrance with notes which are very characteristic of this varietal. On the palate it is sapid, harmonious, and very persistent, with a delightful minerality.
