1978 Solaia is born

Piero Antinori produces the first vintage of Solaia, a “cru” from a vineyard of the same name, contiguous to the Tignanello vineyard.
The initial blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, successively modified to include Sangiovese.
It is a moment of intense commitment but also of great ambition: in 1979, Renzo Cotarella arrives to direct the Castello della Sala and, in less than ten years, creates the wines which come to symbolize the estate.

1975 the Spumante Classico Institute

Antinori, together with other nine firms, create the Spumante Classico Institute.
Despite their historic ties to red wine and to Chianti Classico in particular, the family has always shown great interest in sparkling wine, and the creation of this Institute consecrates their desire to give concrete form to long-held ambitions.

1975 end of the war in Vietnam

On January 27th 1973, after thirteen years of conflict, peace accords for a cease fire are signed in Paris. At the end of March, all American troops leave Vietnam, but the conflict continues until 1975 when Saigon is occupied and the South Vietnamese regime falls.
