Poggio alle Nane was created from the finest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes of the Le Mortelle estate. The wine takes its name from the zone in which its vineyards are located; this area where, once upon a time, ducks – known locally as “nane” – were raised, extends from the hill (“poggio” in Italian) to a lake where ducks can still be seen today.

It is a wine which wishes to express the explorative and innovative spirit of the Antinori family, which aims to bring out all the viticultural potential of this particular coastal habitat of the Tuscan Maremma.
We would like to tell the story of this wine through the words of its winemaker, Marco Ferrarese.

«Ten years after the first vines were planted, and after tireless work in the vineyards and countless tastings aimed at discovering how to select the grapes and how to work them in the cellars, the right vintage finally arrived, the one which we had long been waiting for in order to begin to recount this new adventure.

The 2009 Poggio alle Nane is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% di Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged for eighteen months in oak barrels. The exceptional ripeness of the grapes gave us an intensity of fruit in the aromas, a nose which is open, warm, and complex. On the palate, the wine Is powerful, sweet, and fragrant in its flavors. A wine which will be long-lived, but which already is splendidly pleasurable and drinkable».
